About the Curator

Dr. John P. Elcik IV

Author, educator, storyteller, and curator of the Pen Odyssey literary ecosystem.

Dr. John P. Elcik IVWho I Am

I am an author shaped by curiosity, creativity, and a life spent exploring cultures, systems, stories, and ideas. Growing up as part of a Navy family allowed me to live in Japan, Guam, and the Philippines—experiences that continue to influence how I think about place, identity, memory, and storytelling.

My background in teaching, marketing, creativity, technology, and genealogy informs the worlds I build and the characters who inhabit them. Pen Odyssey is the umbrella under which those literary worlds come together—not as a single shelf, but as a curated collection of voices, questions, and creative journeys.

Why I Write Across Multiple Worlds

I write across multiple worlds because different stories reveal different truths. Some ideas need humor. Some need mystery. Some need folklore, satire, memory, language, or a little well-placed mischief.

Each universe inside Pen Odyssey reflects something I continue to explore:

  • Father Goose — playful nostalgia, rhyme, family memory, and gentle satire
  • Ghostwriter Protocol — identity, memory, artificial intelligence, and metafiction
  • Ashen Graves — mythic resilience, emotional depth, and the stories left behind
  • WordRealm — linguistic joy, grammar, humor, and the magic of language
  • Emerald Narrative — folklore, myth, warmth, and Irish storytelling traditions
  • Canine Detectives — loyalty, mystery, travel, teamwork, and heart
  • Nutty Ark and Croak & Dagger — woodland comedy, political satire, and suspiciously familiar behavior

The Personas

To keep each universe distinct, I write through a set of creative personas. They are not masks. They are storytelling lenses.

John Elcik, Father Goose, Dr. Jack Ivy, Bob Shellwood, Sean O’Cleary, Slay Pendragon, and Ashen Graves each give a particular kind of story the voice it needs. Together, they allow Pen Odyssey to move across genres without asking every reader to want the same thing from every book.

The Purpose of Pen Odyssey

Pen Odyssey exists to give curious readers a place to explore books that are imaginative, thoughtful, humorous, heartfelt, and built with care.

It is a home for readers who enjoy:

  • Humor and heart
  • Mystery and worldbuilding
  • Mythology, memory, and folklore
  • Satire, adventure, and social observation
  • Language, wordplay, and creative experimentation

A Promise to Readers

My goal is to write stories that respect the reader’s intelligence while welcoming them into the journey. Some books are playful. Some are reflective. Some are strange on purpose. But all are created with the hope that readers will find something worth noticing, remembering, or sharing.
